Heritage Program
Direct Appropriation / Trust Fund
A general fund appropriation of $600,000 went to the Nature Preserves
Commission in 1990.
Mineral Tax, Penalties and Environmental License Plates
In 1994, legislators passed enabling legislation for the Kentucky
Heritage Land Conservation Fund, which provides a funding mechanism
for the Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Act (1990). Monies
are derived from a portion of the unmined mineral tax, monies
received from environmental penalties, and the sale of environmental
licenses plates. This fund generated $4.5 million in 1996.
